What is Extended Producer Responsibility?

In 2023, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) succeeded the previous "Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste) Regulations 2007" to place a greater responsibility on businesses for the ‘Full Net Cost’ of packaging at end-of-life. 


You are legally required to comply with EPR, if your business meets the following thresholds:


Have an annual turnover above £1 million

This also applies to groups of companies in the UK, so you will need to add together the turnover of each company within your group.

Handling more than 25 tonnes of packaging

This includes but is not limited to packaging around imported raw materials, components and finished goods, packaging purchased to add to goods, packaging with your business' branding, unfilled packaging you supply to businesses, packaging you sell to end-consumers.
