The Packaging Regulations
The Packaging Waste Regulations “The Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste) Regulations 2007 and Amendments”
are a legal requirement, affecting a number of UK businesses and operating like a ‘tax’ on packaging.
Obligated individuals, or groups of companies within the UK, need to calculate the amount of packaging they handle and pay towards
the cost of recycling this material when it enters the UK waste stream. Although they are called the Packaging Waste Regulations,
in terms of how they affect your company they are not concerned with the way you dispose of your back door waste, they are concerned
with the packaging you introduce into the UK as a result of your business activities.
As a Packaging Compliance Scheme, Kite ensures you comply with your legal requirement accurately and efficiently. We manage the
entire packaging compliance process for you, providing an outstanding service level to minimise the work you need to do and to give
you peace of mind.
Am I Obligated Under The Packaging Waste Regulations
- Are you a UK business that handles packaging (please see activities)
- Do you have a turnover of £2 million or more
- Are you handling more than 50 tonnes of packaging per year (excluding exported packaging)
If so you are legally required to register your company and submit annual packaging “tax” return under the The Producer
Responsibility Obligations (Packaging Waste) Regulations 2007 and Amendments.
